Mohali 30th September, 2016: Around 700 Unaided Colleges of Punjab are at verge of closure courtesy due to Punjab Govt’s futile promises to release Post Matric Scholarship of SC / BC students in time. It is worth mentioning that Private Unaided Colleges of Punjab cater to 95% students of Punjab but most are facing risk of closure in want of funds.

Unaided Colleges were asked not to charge any fees from SC/BC students by Punjab Govt and it was duly implemented by all Unaided colleges of Punjab moreover the examination fees of these students too were deposited from college funds but till date despite repeated representation to CM/ Deputy CM/ Secretaries / Directors, Punjab Govt is yet to release 80 crores for 2,86,000 students of 2014-15 and Approx 400 crores of 3 lac students of 2015- 16 .
It is to be mentioned that due to non payment of Scholarship amount for SC/ST students Colleges are not able to the salaries timely. Many colleges have been declared Non Performing Asset (NPA) by the banks State Government and many more would be declared NPA if Government would further delay in the release of scholarship funds.
