I Do Not Want To Be A Doll In Pollywood: Himanshi Khurana

Nov 27, 2015-(Nidhi): Today model/actress Himanshi Khurana completes 24 springs of her life. Himanshi who started her acting career in 2013 with Punjabi film ‘Sadda Haq’, shot to fame after appearing in the super-hit music video ‘Soch’ by Hardy Sandhu.

Recently Himanshi made her presence in two songs of completely different genres. One is Ninja’s song ‘Gal Jattan Wali’ and another one if from Mankirat Aulakh titled as ‘Gallan Mithiyan’. Ms Khurana got lots of praises from her fans and colleagues for her work.

On the occasion of her birthday, YoungIndia called the babe to wish her and to know about her aspirations, her working style, upcoming projects and her personal life. Here are some extracts from the conversation…

YoungIndia => Tell us about yourself…
Himanshi Khurana => I took birth in Kiratpur Sahib on 27th November 1991 but I basically belongs to Ludhiana. I am elder one in my siblings and have two brothers. I almost started my career in 10th class. Then I did +1 in medical but after that I quit the regular studies and opt for private studies and completed my secondary education. Then I shift to Delhi.

YI => A memorable birthday gift you got till now…
HK => Actually nobody gave me gifts 😛 because they thought I will not like their gifts. But yes I got many surprises. Last year my friend called me exactly at 12 O’ clock in night. My family was sleeping and I was in my room. We were talking from 15 minutes but he doesn’t wish me. Then suddenly I listen the voice of crackers which came from outside as well as from the phone. Then I went outside and what I saw was just amazing. My friends, my family, everybody was there and they were celebrating my birthday. Even when our neighbours listen the voice of crackers they thought that there was short circuit in the colony, they all came outside and then they came to know about my birthday celebration. Even they join us. That is memorable birthday.

YI => Starting your career as an actress and model…
HK => My father was actually against to this decision. My whole family is from medical background but nobody completes it. So, they want me to join medical stream but I am needle phobic so how can I do medical study. When I was in school, I never skip any function. Every time my mother helped me. My father was so strict that he check my school bag before going to school so he can make sure that I am not able to took part in any competition. When he came to know about my any participation, he became angry and said I go to school and tell them not to allow my daughter to took part. My mother use to throw my clothes, jewelry and other items for competitions from the back-side wall of our house. My parents never came to watch my any performance unlike others. One day my school teacher came to my home without my knowledge. And he told my mother that your daughter is good in dance, so allow her to join the dance classes. He convinced my mother. And I completed diploma in classical dance. Then, in 2010, my uncle who is interested in glamour industry, came to know about a contest – ‘Miss Ludhiana’. He came to me and told about this. He filled my form, did everything for me and in last I became Miss Ludhiana. After that I walked the ramp at a fashion show organised by Lakme. I only did a single round there and my uncle was not satisfied with this. Then a photographer came to us and said that you should made out your portfolio from me. After that we went to Delhi but there we came to know that he is not a well known photographer and we reject him. Post that we find the best photographer there and he had done my portfolio. And that was awesome. Then I got offers from Punjab but first I did print adds and now I am doing songs.

YI => You have done three movies – ‘Sadda Haq’, ‘Leather Life’ and ‘2 Bol’ and three of them belongs to serious cinema and were controversial films. Is there any coincidence in this or it was held under planning…
HK => Randomly I got offers of the films but I don’t want to be like a dummy. Even in songs I choose to do only those songs in which there is also some act to do for me. Nowadays there is a different category for the models also and models had more contribution in the music industry than the singers. I want that everyone came to know about my contribution. I am following same criteria for the films also. Many films came like – there are 3 singers and 3 actresses. They show the girls like dolls. I thought that girls are not only to flaunt makeup in the film. I have to show my talent. I don’t want to be a barbie doll in Punjabi industry. I only choose some different kind of projects without thinking about the consequences of that venture. I had done 3 films to gain experience. I am not going to do any Punjabi movie now till I got a good story.

YI => While choosing songs what you think about first…
HK => Like I said nowadays there is a different category for the models also. Models had more contribution in the music industry than the singers and I want that everyone came to know about my contribution. I never took decision by knowing the name of singer. Before my first song ‘Soch’, I got the offer of Jassi Gill’s song ‘Teri Je Na Hoyi’ but I reject that and everyone in my family was like.. yaar kar le.. itna bada singer hai Jassi Gill.. but I told them I am not going to do it and have patience. Then when I done ‘Laden’ and ask my family now tell which one is better and everybody goes for ‘Laden’. Same I rejected Ammy Virk’s song ‘Chamak Challo’ and done his song ‘Taara’ in which I am in different look and some act to do. When an unknown director came to me, first I check his profile. One year earlier, I rejected Mankirat’s song ‘Gallan Mithiyan’ because of the director, then when Parmish Verma was doing the same song, I choose to do it because I know the working style of Parmish from Ninja’s song ‘Thokda Reya’ which I had done only for my friend. When ‘Gal Jattan Wali’ came to me, I first listen the track and then accept to do it.

YI => You have start singing…
HK => Yes, I have started singing but I do not want to throw any plain song in front of my fans. I have done the cover version song of Hardy Sandhu’s ‘Naa Ji Naa’, to check the response and got good reviews from everywhere for my singing. In my official debut track, I am going to surprise everyone with my new physic. I have join guitar classes to perform live, my singing training is also going on. Actually my team is working to start my live music band. And we all are working hard for my fans.

YI => You want to work with which Punjabi actor…
HK => Amrinder Gill. I love his acting and being a person he is decent and I like his originality.

YI => What about Bollywood films…
HK => I like art movies like Manjhi, Lunchbox, Queen. I love those movies which have some efforts.

YI => Your Ideal…
HK => I am a self made girl. But my first ideal is my mother and from showbiz its Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.

YI => Social Work…
HK => My mother is a social worker and I with my brother have joined two organisations one is PFA (People For Animals) and another is a Human Rights organisation. I love to work for stray, hungry and injured animals.

YI => Upcoming Projects…
HK => After ‘Na Na Na’, I have done 6-7 songs in October which is almost after 8 months. Now, I have J-Star’s ‘Gabru 2’ Sharry Mann’s song, Ammy Virk’s song, Amar Sajaalpuria’s song which I selected after watching a reference video. I also have a South film ‘Ekadu’ in my kitty which is again on a serious topic… bomb blast.

YoungIndia wished Himanshi Khurana a very happy birthday and all the very best for her future 🙂 🙂
