‘I Entered Into Pollywood Due To My Wife’: Karanvir Bohra

Oct 14, 2013 (Nidhi): It seems that Punjabi film industry would soon witness a slight change as producers and directors are not hesitating in launching new faces in Pollywood films. The next debutantes in the row are famous TV actor Karanvir Bohra and his ‘Punjaban’ wife Teejay Sidhu who is born in Sagarpur village near Jalandhar. YoungIndia24 recently met the duo (couple) and they reveal about their first Punjabi flick titled ‘Love You Soniye’. They would be the first real couple who will act together in a reel life in Punjabi flick. Besides acting, the movie has also been produced by the both.

Ask Karanvir that why did he decide to step into Pollywood films and producing it at the same, quick is his reply, “All the credit goes to my Punjabi wife. The plan to produce and act in a Punjabi film was quite old. We were just waiting for the right moment. We were just making our name in daily soaps as well as reality shows.” There must have been a couple of hurdles as far as production is concerned. Agrees Teejay, “Yes, we faced numerous troubles. The very first one was finalizing the location and when the locations were finalized, the permission to shoot over there was another hurdle.

Next was the criticism by few people. They asked us about the singers and comedians in the movie. But to the surprise, there are no as such comedians in the movie. We decided to bring a little change in the industry’s growth by involving all the actors.

As the producers for the first time what special you are going to bring then? Karanvir says, “There are various new things. We are introducing our best friend and a well-known TV host Raghu Ram. Then, senior actor Upasna Singh would be paired for the first time with actor Vindu Dara Singh. This movie would be the debut for 14 people including actors and music directors etc. With actors from B-town and international music composers, we aim to ‘up the cool quotient’ of Punjabi Cinema.

Was Punjabi language a problem for you Karanvir? He tells, “No, it wasn’t difficult for me to deliver dialogues in Punjabi. Again thanks to my better-half as she use to teach me Punjabi. I too regularly watched Punjabi channels in order to learn the accent.” Teejay claims that Karanvir was completely professional during the entire shoot. They worked like co-stars rather than husband and wife. Sharing about her most memorable moment while shoot between them Teejay reveals, “When Karanvir proposed me at set was one of the most memorable moments during the shoot. He never proposed me, not even prior marriage.”

Ending the conversation by asking them about the experience of doing a Punjabi movie in Punjab and a visit to Jalandhar, both says, “It was like coming back to the roots actually. Punjab has given both of us an immense love and affection. The Punjabi food that we ate during shoot was just amazing. And now visiting Jalandhar which is one of the top cities of Punjab will be memorable. The fans here have been quite supportive. We are pleased to visit this city.”
