Role Of Parents In Children’s Education

Jan 16,2015:   The school plays an important role in determining the levels of parental involvement in school. Specifically, schools can outline their expectations of parents and regularly communicate with parents about what children are learning. In school age children spend 70% of their most of time including weekends & holidays out of schools. so parents should involve in the earlier child’s educational process which led to powerful effect in child development.
Parent involvement can make a difference in a child’s development in following way:

  • Improves child behavior problems
  • Better Academic performance
  • More attendance in school
  • Increase confidence level of child
  • Boost motivation

“When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.” That’s the conclusion of A New Wave of Evidence, a report from Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (2002).

Three major factors of parental involvement in the education of their children

1.Parents’ beliefs about what is important, necessary and permissible for them to do with and on behalf of their children.

2.The extent to which parents believe that they can have a positive influence on their children’s education.

3.Parents’ perceptions that their children and school want them to be involved

Although most parents do not know how to help their children with their education, with guidance and support, they may become increasingly involved in home learning activities and find themselves with opportunities to teach, to be models for and to guide their children.

When schools encourage children to practice reading at home with parents, the children make significant gains in reading achievement compared to those who only practice at school.

Parents, who read to their children, have books available, take trips, guide TV watching, and provide stimulating experiences contribute to student achievement.
so Parent care and guidance play important role in children over all growth which will not only beneficial for individual but also for society and country.
